What am I doing wrong??! What to do when your kid won’t stick with anything

Have you ever signed your kid up for lessons, or sports, only to have them quit on you after the first couple of lessons? As a parent, we all know that we have to choose our battles – and sometimes it can be difficult to keep your children interested in the activities you’ve chosen for them… or even the ones they’ve chosen for themselves.

It can be frustrating when your kid won’t stick with anything. You might feel like you’re doing something wrong as a parent, or that there’s something wrong with your child. But don’t worry – you’re not alone! Many kids go through a phase where they don’t seem to want to do anything.

The good news is that there are a few simple reasons for that and a couple even better reasons to have your child try Super Kicks Karate…

  1. They don’t feel like they belong: As adults we know exactly what it feels like to walk into a crowded room and instantly feel awkward or out of place. But if your child is feeling that way after coming back a second time, then you need to listen to that… chances are there is something in that environment making them uncomfortable. Maybe it’s not the right place for them.
  2. They’re not challenged: A lot of times, kids will lose interest in things because they’re not being challenged. This is especially true when it comes to sports or other physical activities. If your child seems to be bored or unchallenged, then you might want to consider finding a different activity for them.
  3. They don’t see progress: This is probably the number one reason why kids (and adults!) give up on things. They don’t see the results of their efforts and so they feel like it’s not worth it.
  4. The instructors aren’t paying attention: Unfortunately, this happens a lot in group activities when there aren’t enough adults to go around… and some of the kids feel left out and aren’t getting enough one-on-one attention from the instructors. This can make them feel a little bit insignificant and left out.

Super Kicks challenges students while creating a community of belonging

There is a reason why Super Kicks has a reputation of life-changing results. It’s not just because our curriculum is challenging and fun, but it is also in part due to amazing martial arts instructors who actually care about each and every one of their students – not only do they ensure weekly progress, but have the perfect rewards system to encourage kids every step of the way.

Our students truly do belong here.

There is one other really important thing that we do differently that helps develop habits for healthy and happy kids (and adults…), which is called “the gain.” Gain is an important life skill that gives people the ability to always be looking at their progress, instead of their failures. Instead of saying, “you can’t do that kick yet,” we ensure our students understand and see how far they have come from the previous days or weeks. This has been life-changing for our instructors and our students.
