You realize you’re on two separate journeys, right?
You start taking martial arts, and you decide to train hard, learn to defend yourself, and work towards earning your black belt. Ahhh black belt, the quest, the goal… the destination. You’ve begun your first journey.
The journey of achievement.
And it’s going to be awesome. You’re going to have to push yourself harder than ever before. You will struggle, and fight, and make new friends along the way.
There will be obstacles that you’ll battle through. You will have wins and losses…small victories accomplished, and because of those wins, you’ll start believing in yourself even more.
You’ll start to recognize that anything is possible. You’ll gain more confidence, and recognize that your hard work has value, and the skill set called the “science of achievement” can be applied towards anything. You are unstoppable.
Unknowingly, you have begun the second journey, and this one is the most important.
The journey of transformation.
Who we BECOME as we progress towards black belt is always more valuable than the black belt itself. New ideas form, new beliefs about yourself and your life take shape, we shed limiting beliefs as we crash through barriers that used to be impenetrable— we become achievers. We become leaders.
This is our goal for our students, that we teach them to watch for, and appreciate—THIS journey. Because the journey of transformation is powerful, and it makes all the difference in the world.
Hopefully, you will never have to use your martial arts for self-defense. However, the values you learn, the grit you develop, and the resilience that comes from the achievement… these things will serve you each and every day.
